Go for the diesel, if you have an Italian car then it has to have a Italian motor, not some other motor made by another manufacturer, and with all that torque you will always out accelerate the 6 cylinder Commodores and Fords, which will put a smile on your face, the JTS 2.2 would have a lighter motor though and would understeer a bit less than a 2.4 JTD, Colin.

2007 - 2008 is a model transition year for the 159
I understand the series 2 is a better car (stiffer, lighter, more rear legroom due to change seat), anybody have any experience ??

I'm hanging out for a Blue 2.4JTD Ti Sportwagon to replace our 156 1.9JTD SW. Manual if I they exist anybody know? I did find a 159 1.9JTD manual SW in the right colour but it wasn't a Ti.

Also, don't forget the 1.9JTD if your after economy, I get sub 5.0L/100 easily on all highway trips with shed loads of grunt for overtaking fully loaded. We've just returned to Brissy from Sydney via Dorrigo fully loaded on a single tank. The 1.9 is often mapped for similar power to the stock 2.4 in the UK, interested to hear how/if this can be done here.

I believe the Ti sport wagon never came out in manual, which is a shame.

The six speed auto in the TI wagon is fantastic. It keeps the diesel nicely within its torque band and is super smooth. In Sport mode it makes the car very snappy. In addition you get the manual stick shift or paddle shift options which work beautifully. Driving a manual diesel around town would require a lot of gearshift rowing I would think and with the 400nm of torque there is a lot of strain on the clutch, according to the poms on Alfaowner. The 0-100KPH times in manual and auto are within a whisker of the same anyway I think. We love our TI auto.

Aust. didn't get the 2.4JTD Q4 either. No matter, the auto is good and knowing that a manual is not available will make buying easier when the right car presents.  Series2 Ti in blue please
