Posted in the nsw forum, but incase it gets missed....
hi all, my giulia super has busted its radiator (or so i presume), in coffs harbour. The car cant seem to stop overheating. i dont think it is the water pump -seems to be flowing, leads me to assume.ots tue radiator itself. Most likely 40 odd years of sediment. anyone recommend a mechanic or someone that could potentially assist. (or anyone willing to help!!)
Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew, you seem to be inundnated with helpful replies here  ???
Mate, I'd say you may be out of luck as far as anyone knowing anyone up that way. Any mechanic should be able to help out with flushing the radiator don't believe there's anything special about the mechanics of the engine or radiator of that era, alternatievly (not sure of its location) if possible remove the thermostat and run the car without it until you get to your final destination with some coolant on stand by?
Coffs is a large enough town to have a radiator specialist like NATRAD http://www.natrad.com.au/?storelocate/storeinfo.html?id=6, actually there may even be an Alfa dealership or specialist http://www.coffscoastprestige.com.au/

Made it home. On a towtruck.
Will be recoring/replacing my radiator - from a process of elimination i've diagnosed a blocked radiator.
Made for a very interesting trip, might replace the water pump and thermostat while i'm at it - for total peace of mind with the cooling system.
Thanks,
Andrew

Better peace of mind would include:

Flushing all coolant from the block
Replacing all hoses including heater hoses.
New Fan belt
New radiator cap of correct pressure
Demineralised water based coolant with corrosion inhibitor
Re-tension  the head
Check ignition timing
Check fuel air mixtures

Definitely replace the 40 year old water pump but the thermostat can just be checked in some heated water with a thermometer for opening temp. The pump impellers and bearing may be up to the job but the water seal will let you down sooner than later in which case it should be replaced as you have intended.
