Hello, hope everyone's new year is off to a good start.

After 5 years of owning a 2000 Alfa 156 Selespeed (2nd owner) and with just 76,000 kms on the clock, still smelling like new and full service history, i am exchanging and about to finalise a deal on a new BMW 3 series (traitor.... I know). I have been offered $5,000 as trade-in allowance and think this is fair. Any thoughts?

If you're trading in, it's not the trade in allowance on the 156 that's important. It's the change over amount and the amount you are financing, assuming there is finance involved.

Have you haggled hard, including asking the price of the BM if you don't have a trade-in?  If the difference, without a trade is say $2K, then that's what they are really giving you for the 156, and you may be better off selling it privately.
