Hi There,

I was wondering if anyone has had fitted a three point retractable seatbelt for the rear seats?

I saw this company in the UK that looked like they had done a great job of fitting them in the rear of a Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV

Does anyone know who is a good person for this sort of job in NSW, preferably sydney?

Also keen on doing the fronts in retractable also.

Cheers

Hi Nath,

There may be something useful in this old thread:   http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/sedan-1962-1977/37171-seatbelt-points-super.html

I make no assertions as to the legalities/ADR compliance etc etc etc.................

Thanks Paul,

Some useful pics there to take to a seatbelt installer!
The boot shot is of value as a retractable looks as though it cold be located at that point.

Cheers Nath

You may find that a 'proper' (authorised) seatbelt installer will want to drill a dirty big hole through your pillar to install the above-shoulder slider ring that the belt feeds through.  The problem is that the back of the seat is not high enough so running a belt like I have tends to pull down on your shoulder in the event of an accident.   I did my own risk assessment and determined that a short belt was better than no belt at all, plus I was really only installing belts for the kids seats.

Having said that, the factory ADR belts in my Alfetta GTV (non-inertia-reel) were very low in the rear seats, so the configuration is not without precedence.

You may be able to source an inertia-reel that will mount horizontally and feed the belt straight out to the shoulder, but this may require strengthening of the parcel shelf.

You may also run into other 'engineering' problems because once a 'pro' instals inertia-reels, they will want to whack a Modification sticker on the vehicle.  In some jusdictions that then requires a pre-ADR vehicle to have other safety mods carried out such as collapsible steering column joints etc etc.    It's a long time since I've dealt with vehicle modification red-tape, so I might be off point,. but make certain you ask ALL the questions before committing.

Personally I wouldn't bother with rear inertia-reels in a coupe.  Once you squeeze someone in there the ain't going to be able to move, even if the wanted to   ;)  Let 'em suffer with a fixed belt.

From a very rusty memory I think I saw a GTC at one of the club shows which may have had inertias fitted all 'round.  Someone else here may be able to comment on that.
