Penrite HPR 30 mineral oil or HPR 15, if you prefer fully synthetic, check out the Penrite website, Colin.

You could also try Castrol, Mobil, Valvoline, etc, but a lot of Alfetta, 75 twin spark owners use Penrite and it easily available of the shelf at Repco, Supercheap and Autobahn, and the wide viscosity allows for extreme temperature differences in Australia, Colin.

What sort of use will the car see? How often do you plan to use the car and how many miles a year?

Hi Steve, it will be my daily driver as i dont commute very far, say about 100 klms a week aprox, regards

15w50 or 20w50 is all you really need. A "high mileage" type oil could be of benefit too. I would change it every 6 months due to risk of fuel contamination from all the short cold running commuting trips.

If you manage a decent drive to really get the oil hot once a week or so it would be worth while thinking about a full synthetic 10w50 or even 5w50 for a yearly change interval which would end up cost effective and give better protection for all the cold starts etc.

Thanks for your valuable input, just a thought, how popular would synthetic oil have been in 1984 and what oil they would have used at built time, think in 84 would have been mainly mineral, considering i guess will go probably the synth way and see how it goes, as i do enjoy the occasional country drive especially to stretch her highness's legs-gambe. regards

Synthetic oil was only introduced to the consumer in the early 70s and they were thinner grades like 5w20 10w30 as that's what was mostly used in the USA. I know Amsoil made a 10w40 though which was towards the thicker end of the spectrum. These were of course the "proper" synthetic Group 4/5 blends and not the Group 3/4/5 synthetic blends we get today.

I remember back then, mineral 20w50, 20w40 and 30w40 were more common here. Chances are that's what went in most of these engines. Of course engine oil has improved significantly in the last 30 years. What they used then is mostly irrelevant.
