Hi there,

Blurb below on round 3 of the Italian Challenge Race Series. Should be a ripper day at Lakeside if you want to check out some of your club mates in action.

Cheers,

ITALIANS READY FOR BATTLE AT LAKESIDE

Queensland's hottest Italian racing cars will grid up at Lakeside Park on Sunday, May 5 for round three of the inaugural Italian Challenge Race Series.

This new intermarque Italian race series is being run over four rounds, all at Queensland's legendary Lakeside Park (aka Lakeside International Raceway), as part of the circuit's Top Gear racing format. It is believed to be the first multi-manufacturer, all Italian race series ever held in Australia.

Despite a several cars being unavailable for this round, fans will still be treated to a spanking line up of Italy's finest marques, with ten Alfa Romeos, two Ferraris a Maserati Ghibli and a Fiat X-19 making up the field.

Series points leader Charlie Clements will head the charge in his gorgeous Ferrari 308 GTB. Clements has been Mr Consistency so far this season with 4 x 2nd places, a 3rd and a 4th from eight starts. With his nemesis Joel O'Farrell out of action (having badly damaged his Alfetta GT last round) Clements will be hell bent on taking the chequered flag on May 5.

Standing in his way, however, will be two very quick turbo-charged rivals, in the form of Bruce Horey's Maserati Ghibli and Richard Shinkfield's Fiat X-19. Horey's Mazza once terrorised rivals in the World Touring Car Championship and is capable of pealing off sub-59 second laps of Lakeside at will but thus far mechanical consistency has been its problem. Can the experienced Bruce Horey extract the full potential of this force fed weapon or will it be Shinkfield's X-19 (propelled by a fire-breathing Lancia Integrale power plant) that steals the show?

The Alfa Romeos may not have the ponies of the aforementioned powerhouses but there are certainly a couple that will keep the front-runners on their toes. John Coleman (in his 3.0 litre Alfa 75) made his Lakeside debut in round two of the series and was just starting to show genuine pace when a tail shaft gave way. With seven Targa Tasmania events under his belt, Coleman is a fierce competitor and a very accomplished steerer. Watch for him to be right up the pointy end of the pack.

The fourth and final round of the 2013 Italian Challenge Race Series will take place at Lakeside Park on Sunday, September 8 and will also feature a regularity category and a massive Italian show and shine.
