Makes me wonder about skill level of all the f-knuckle heads who drive one handed with a phone in ear in traffic whilst turning or trying to kill another motorist or a pedestrian or a cyclist.

We were watching that race from Penrite and it was bloody exciting from there.  Even without knowing the driver was doing it one-handed...

I only wish I had being there on the weekend, either racing or at least spectating.  But then again, I am not a spectating type, have to be doing something.  But then again, I was occupied with another more important matter, so luckily I didn't enter or gone up.

I used to have a Mk1 Bugeye sprite ( circa 1973), which I seem to remember pushing as much as I drove it , so seeing the thing jump out of gear was no surprise. Mine used to jump out of second all the time. 1:08 on the short track is unbelievable  . Its worth noting that the driver Damien Myer, was doing 1.56 at Philip Island during the historics this year. Not bad in a 1275 /1310 cc 4 speed car .  Old sprites & MG midget never seem to die, they either get a Ford or Corolla engine or  just get lighter and go faster.

PS. There is a video clip somewhere of the Austin Healeys running at Bathurst in the wet about 10years ago in a support race to the Bathurst 1000. Watching the Sprites drive around the big Healey 3000's over the top of the mountain, get passed down Conrod , then drive around them under brakes at the bottom of the hill was just great to watch

That race was incredible to watch from Penrite.  And later in the day in Group N, a couple of Minis vs a Falcon and a Torana was just as good.

Your right there Sheldon . I reckon with the money I spent on that car I could have brought a Porsche . Shortly after , I saw the light and  brought my first Alfa and have never looked back.
