Fi and I chuckled at your exclamation as you drove past.  I told Jack you'd seen a duck.

Nice work Stephen probably best to keep your eyes on the road or at least slow down while looking over your shoulder. Lol.

Yes I am aware of that ;D. Was more in disbelief of what I was looking at.

What Stephen was looking at was a visual essay in driver-error or middle-aged reaction-time (not sure which is worse). My memory of the sequence of events is almost the reverse of what the video shows happening. Memory says: Knew I was going in too fast on still-cool slicks (lap 2 still a warm-up for them). As the tail stepped out thought 'I can try to correct this but better be ready to lock-up while on the bitumen - but even if I lock-up this will be bad - no track left and the fence looks close at this speed.' I thought I corrected then stood on the brakes just before the car left the track.
What the video shows is: right hand wheel cocking-up on exit, tail of car way too high (and not just because I hadn't lowered those springs further as I'd intended to). There must be some deceleration at work already because the brake lights flick-on for a few frames (!!) as the car slides. So now the tail is in full swing. Driver backing-off - even tapping brake - on too-fast exit - in tail happy car, when he should have been accelerating! But the brakes are not on in the moment all four wheels are back on the bitumen (as 'planned') nor as the car broadsides nor even as the car leaves the track. Instead we seem to have full right-hand-down as car exits stage left (ie over-correcting long after the curtains are closing). So my memory (perhaps trying to save face) projected thoughts I was having as the car started leaving the track back 2 seconds to when it was still on the black-top. Either that or there was a three second delay in my reactions!
Poor old Sud deserved better.

As Alister said in the other thread, looks like it all happened very quickly - won't pretend I would react any differently or 'better' in the same circumstances.  Damn shame to lose a good Sud, hope you're back on the track soon.  This time with a roll cage...

Thanks Guys.

Haven't given up on SUD000 yet – yet to asses it properly. I'm thinking some radical surgery just might save it.....

Anyway, since there is still much to learn I'll be back one way or another – somewhat chastened.

That's good news :-)  Best of luck with it.

Hey John,

Sorry to hear about the car but glad you are ok!!!

Not sure if you remember me but I used to own SUD000 before Damon dropped the 1.7 in (met you at Lygon St Alfesta a few years ago). Anyway best of luck with whatever you decide to do with it, chance to create a spider sud - maybe call it the Spud???   ;)
