How Many Lambda Sensors on the 159?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone shed any light on how' many lambda sensors there are on my 2.2 JTS 159 :?:

I would ideally like to know how many in total and how many different types there are. (eg 4 - 2 top and 2 bottom)

Not a problem for me yet, but I have read a fair bit about the check engine issue and I want to be as prepared as I can for when (note not IF? ) I encounter the need to replace them in the future.

If anyone can also provide any insight on how accurate the workshop diagnostic equipment really is as I have read some horror stories about the resolution to the check engine error being very hit and miss and whilst I would like to think that this wouldn't be the case in this day and age, it also wouldn't surprise me!

AJH, have a look at your exhaust and count the number of wires coming out of the exhaust pipes, on my 156 JTS there are 4 Lambda Sensors, may be the same number on a 159, have a look at EB spare parts lists, when you have done around 100,000klms, then you should think about replacing them, particulary if you start to get error messages or misfires, i replaced all the 4 in my car and they were equally all loaded up with crap as they all live in the same exhaust stream, Colin.

So do you advocate replacing the sensors at 100k or waiting for them to fail?

On my 156 JTS i waited until 113,000klms, and after misfires and warnings i replaced them, if they fail, then the mixtures will go out to most likely too rich, to avoid leaning out and valve burning and piston ring breakage, and the extra carbon deposits will ruin the catalitic convertors at several grand each, get prices locally and overseas and order the lot at once, Colin.
