Mr Frog

Is it possible to replace the 105's cigar lighter with a standard cigarette lighter - and if so, how? Thanks.

Yes it is.
If you reach up behind the dash board to the lighter, you will find its held in place (against the dash) by a threaded collar.  Unscrew this collar and the lighter can be removed.  The replacement lighter should slip right in.
Obviously, you need to transfer the wiring.  It's a pretty easy job.  Disconnect the battery before you have a go.

Guys

I removed mine without unscrewing the collar as the 'sleeve' of the lighter is spring loaded. Just lightly push back towards yourself with a turn and should fall into your hand.

Not sure why you want to replace as the standard cigar lighter is original & very period and you can easily get fixed at an auto elec. Probably will light a smoke as well (or just keep a lighter in your pocket as I do!).

... but useless to plug in accessories, if you don't want to drive a museum piece.

Personally I'd leave the original in place and hide a new one under the dash.

....but 105's are museum pieces and need no accessories. Have you sold your Sprint?

Mr Frog

thanks all - it's to plug in an ipod without having to buy a new radio with an ipod usb port. the old lighter still works, so I'll just put it in the glovebox for when it's required in the far distant future.

Mr Frog

Does anyone have a good quality photo of a 105 series 1 cigar lighter so i can see what I'm feeling for under the dash. I've tried the twist and turn method of removal with no luck, and i can't feel a threaded collar when i manage to get my hand into that tiny space.

Campbeli

here's a picture of the back side of my cigar lighter 1970 Junior 0- series 2 i'm afraid so i'm not sure if that helps
i also need to have means getting power for the GPS and Ipod charger and haven't decided whether to replace the cigar lighter or add one up under the dask.

Yes i'd like to keep the orignal lighter for looks - but having looked up under the dash i cant see an obvious place to fix another lighter (something from Jaycar i guess).

i'm also wondering if anyone knows if my picture looks "right". On the end there is a lump of plastic and a nut, plastic looks kind of broken ...maybe that's how it is meant to be????

You can get good 12 volt cigarette lighter outlets for GPS's and chargers, that are a good fit for the newer plugs, the older cigarette lighter outlets are a bit loose, and you hit a bump and the charger comes loose and falls out, i think they are called DIN outlets?, i put 2 in my 156 for an MP3 Player and GPS, hid them both in the ashtray where you can't see them, may be a problem in a 105 for a period piece, you could hide it in the glove box or under the dash, you can get them at Jaycar, Supercheap or Autobahn, Colin.
