We are bombarded everyday with advertising and commercials.

Now you can't even have a few moments peace when filling the car at some service stations when your ears are blasted loudly from the nearby LCD screen spruiking I don't know what.   >:(

So if you want to the senses annoyed, fill up at a BP or Caltex/Woolworths or United servos.  I will be visiting Shell servos from now onwards.

That's my whinge for the day.   8)

And then when you pay, you are asked, "would you like fries with that", in the form of chips chocolates and other things that i shouldn't touch, Colin.

My gripe is bloody televisions in restaurants. What makes restaurant owners think that when you go out to dinner with your favourite person or family that you want to sit there watching silent crap on TV? Sometimes you can't find a position where you are not facing a screen. The trouble is that no matter how hard you try, your eyes are drawn to the flickering image, like a moth to flame and your brain constantly tries to make sense of the silent vision. Meaningful conversation goes out the window. Do some people find it impossible to tear themselves away from Master Chef, or X Factor and have conversation with a real human over a nice meal? I am sorely tempted to buy a universal remote and turn the damn things off. I would like to know what moron thought it was a good idea. I like to think that there is a special purgatory for the people who invented ideas like that and speed humps, speed cameras, stupid speed limits etc where they have to endure their invention for eternity.

Rant over.

But hang on a minute, in Victoria a few weeks ago, it was announced that they are aiming for zero road toll and this is to be achieved by not getting old clunkers off the road or improving driver training but by changing the tolerance on percentages on being over the limit downwards, so when this is achieved, we should be thanking the speed camera inventor for saving all our lives, Colin.

Do they seriously think that is possible? I think your pollies have finally gone completely off their trollies. The only way to achieve zero road toll would be to ban cars completely. Humans will always make mistakes. Nothing we do is, was, or ever will be totally safe. People kill themselves doing stuff in their homes, like having a shower.

Seriously, i heard this on the radio a few weeks ago on the way home from work, didn't get much coverage, we need a motorist organization with the balls to say no to this type of rubbish, me thinks there will be camera's appearing in surburban streets in the not too distant future, Colin.

To go with this campaign we now have a heap of extra signs here in Northern Vic telling us its a "high risk area". these locations are usually on flat open roads, few or no intersections, often with a slight gradient and good viability - which is handy, 'cause it helps to see the camera cars that are usually parked there. $$$$$

Now imagine if the TAC used pump TV to run practical 30 sec clips on safe driving tips (others than wipe of 5), road rule reminders, or vehicle safety check tips..... but wait, that would cost the govt money, not earn it. ;)

Cheers
Darren

There is such an organisation - The Australian Motoring Enthusiasts Party - who are trying to get a seat or two in the Senate.

My son came across them the other day. I'll post the link in the general section. They seem to know what they are doing.

That will be at least something worth watching whilst filling the car up!

Pump tv I can block out - but the fact that most servo's typically have no water in the bucket, full garbage bins, no paper towels and the tyre pressure systems not working or so broken it doesn't accurately work really shits me..

2 chocolates for $5? maybe a litre of redbull for$6....
