Noosa Hill Climb "The Hill"

I have been thinking about having a go at the Noosa Hill Climb.

I have no previous hill climbing experience, nor any motorsport experience for that matter. I do have the sense to know how fast is fast enough for me though and do not want to damage my little stepnose!

So my question is this, is this event a reasonable place for me to drive my car to, check the tyre pressures, fluids etc and then line up and have a little blatt up the hill?

I suggest you contact Neil Cope (Noosa Classic Car club secretary, 105 owner and nice bloke) who can give you all the details. In my opinion (purely as a spectator) its not the most forgiving place to "have a go" but that said if you are sensible and just want to have a run in regularity, don't let tht comment put you off.

Yes and love it. Very very good fun! Myself and two of my neighbours run 116 gtv's up the hill twice a year, it's only 15 mins up the road for us so we can't say no.

It's only as dangerous as your right foot makes it.

The hill is awesome and true can shred a car or two but is 98% driver red mist(except for my episode-hey pete and derek)Work on the size of your smile at the end of each run not times.There will be fellow alfisti to give you a hand etc.SIZE OF THE SMILE and walk it before you drive it.Awesome fun

So,
Who else is coming to take a look? Excellent lineup of Alfas this year, plus lots of other interesting stuff running. For anyone who hasn't been its a very casual sort of event from a spectator perspective. Bring your walking shoes... Plenty of food and drinks in the pit area at the bottom of the run plus a few vendors up the hill ( around turns 4 and 8 ).

When a group of cars have run and filled up the finishing area at the top the cars run back down and this gives the shuttle bus a chance to run up the track and drop people off (it loops around via the road again to the bottom so also works as a shuttle down the hill). Bus stops at turn um - whatever it is... anyway far enough up to save a walk.

If you manage to park somewhere on Sunrise Road you can pick up the bus at the top of Gyndier Drive near the fire station and catch it down the highway to the lower entrance (good if you don't like bushwalking). Otherwise park/walk to the bend further along Sunrise between Wood Duck and Waterlilly Lanes (on opposite side of road to those streets!) and enter that way - it is a somewhat steep rocky route in from there though.

The Greens (and Dalton) will be making a weekend of it and camping at Boreen Point Friday and Saturday nights. Not a bad option especially if some are more easily bored by cars on hills than others... Campsites still available...

Oh - almost forgot - $15 for the day or $20 for the weekend, kids vaguely plausibly under 14 (i.e. not mine) free. Either day is good if you just want to "take a look" - after a sighting run or 2 everyone is just out to grab the best time they can on any run (especially if there is a chance of the weather getting worse) so there is no "best day".

Unfortunately I have been told by the executive director that I can't run, as I have to pit crew for my son in his single seater. So I have a good mate of mine Andrew Helmore running the turbo car for me.
So after been beaten by my son at Leyburn, if my mate sets a better time in the Turbo car I really will know it's time to hand over my license.

Good luck to all the Alfa guys competing in the The Hill over the weekend. Great Alfa turn out, must be close to the most represented marque. Wish I could be there. If you're thinking of taking a look, do it!

Great weekend with good weather and everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Two Alfas in the Top 25 from an entry list of 150.

Peter Parianos had an issue with his gearbox which was stuck in 2nd gear so he only ran on Saturday.

Carl Saddingtons Alfetta GT was voted as one of the Top 10 best turned out cars

Yes quite amazing how many Alfa's turned up!

Next thing you know there'll be more 105 and 116's than Escorts at the hill, wouldn't that be something else!

Pretty lonely down here... always the only Alfa at the Hill Climbs.....
