Help me buy a 147 GTA!

Hi guys,

Since I'm looking at breaking my 75's heart  :'( I want to replace her with a newer, more refined Alfa.
I'm setting my heart on a 147 GTA, wanting to know what to look out for and how much I should consider paying.

I'm eyeing off one with around 150k kms, is that getting to the point of a mid-life rebuild?

And if anyone knows someone who knows someone who wants to sell, let me know.

i'm sure you know to look for one with a service history and the Q2 diff installed.

others may tell you to avoid the selespeed but the GTA selespeed is miles ahead of the other selespeeds and I doubt very much you can consistently change gears as fast as it.

later cars have 330mm brakes, which tend to have fewer problems than those fitted with 305mm discs (these have a tendency to warp more easily)

The interior has a tendency to wear more poorly than other Alfas. Don't expect a car with 150k km to be pristine inside, especially things like the seat bolsters, door grab handles, steering wheel, HVAC controls, paint on switches.

check the state of the undertray. these cars are low, even when stock. the good thing is the undertray can be easily replaced.

the suspension bits can wear and be noisy and clunky, especially with that kind of mileage. listen for sqeaks and clunks when test driving, espially over speedhumps or uneven roads. All the bits can be replaced fairly easily

are you sure you want to replace your 75? I miss my 75 a lot. Wish I still had it  :(

I think I'm set on the manual, been in a few selespeeds and though I've heard the GTA is a little better it still isn't really my thing.
As for selling the 75 - I've been toying with the idea for a while and I just can't stand having her sit there without the attention she needs. I'm confident the GTA will be a teensie bit less demanding and much more practical for the amount of use I get out of it.

I do love my 75 though, it will be very very sad to see her go.

alfagtv I feel tweed heads is a bit out of my area. I should've mentioned I'm in Canberra  :P

As for another question, anyone know how much a full belts service and new clutch would set me back. Im thinking into the future y'see  ;)

I know the owner of the Tweed car and he has a bad case of the Alfa virus. ;D  That car is serviced by one of the guru's up here too.

no probs.

have you driven a GTA selespeed? if not, try it. its more than a little better. Don't let the other selespeeds put you off. I doubt there are more than 10 people on this forum who've driven a GTA selespeed but I guarantee you'll get more than 10 opinions on it :)

full belts change + standard service probably $1300-$1500 incl parts. less if you source parts yourself.

clutch i can't remember now. well less than $1k fitted.

Mic I don't know about the cost of clutch replacement
But in regards to cambelt replacement I would not take $1300-1500 as gospel, Canberra prices are much higher than else where, I recently had a quote to do the belt $2200 incl parts
