Have never dealt with Alfas until recently buying a 164A from a friend.
Trying to find out more about version codes, & what I want to do with it.
It's in pretty poor condition but it runs.

It was Alfa Romeo's big luxury car from the 80's and 90's, very good car in their day, jointly developed with Fiat, theirs was called the Croma and SAAB, the car that cost so much to develop, sent Alfa Romeo to the poor house [again].
Lots of bad examples out there, which you may have, a few good ones as well, could become a money pit, unless there is sentimental value.
If you really like the 164, then you may wish to buy a good one and use your current car as a donor car for parts, not worth much, there is one at Pinch a Part at Campbellfield in Victoria.
Sold between 1987-1992 when Alfa Romeo got out of Australia, you cannot buy parts for it at an current Alfa Romeo Dealership, but the wreckers and independants have good knowledge and stock.
Has a strong following in the club, there was a sporty version called the 164Q that had spoilers and skirts and a manual gearbox, once seen a complete one at a do it yourself wrecking yard which shows you what they are worth.
The 164 was the best of the Alfa Romeo - Fiat - Saab joint venture.
Was succeeded by the 166 which was also a good car, may be a better option than a 164 as they are newer, don't ask what happened to the 165!, Colin.
