Burman box

Hey guys, does anyone know if the bushes for the Burman type steering boxes are still available anywhere?
The rest of my box is in quite good shape, but there is a whisper of wear in the bronze bush.
Thoughts?

No one markets the bronze bushing by itself to my knowledge.

By the time you have play in the bushing, the sector shaft must be machined or ground to remove wear. This also goes for the top bush. The clearances on these bushes should be between .00075" to .001" to ensure no detectable play in the at the steering wheel. When this work is done, the O-ring seal at the bottom should be machined for a lipped seal. This work requires a COMPETENT machinist that has some understanding of the workings of the steering box. This will ensure the box will not leak. No gaskets are required... use Loctite 515.

Generally, by the time your bushes are gone, the lower bearing of the surface of the worm shaft is cactus. There are two methods to repair this: On a crankshaft grinder with the radius set to 3/16" (from memory) or replacement with a tapered roller bearing (front wheel bearing style). The lube to use is Penrite steering box lube, and must be filled prior to the top plate being bolted and sealed up.

I will soon be offering an exchange and/or reconditioning service for all model Burman boxes (there are three different models) at competitive rates.
