roof lining repair

Hi,

The lining has come away from the foam backing as it has basically rotted away. The velour fabric is fine its just the foam has disintegrated over time. I have tried a spray contact adhesive but of the foam just keeps falling away.

Has anyone had any success repairing this ? 

Is it possible to scrape away the foam backing so the fabric has something to adhere to?

For my brothers old uni car (Saab 900) we pushed 100 thumb tacks into the roof. Less than 2 minutes and the princely sum of $1 and it worked!

Hi Ash,

Yes they can be repaired, but you need to take the whole hoodlining out and completely remove the old foam from both the board and the cloth. This will involve lots of scraping and vacuuming to get all the bits out.

Once you are done, get a couple of cans of spray contact cement and give both surfaces a coat. Let this first coat dry completely so to act as a sealant. Once dry give it another coat and press together when tacky, like the instructions say.

Take care with this step, as any wrinkles you put in it will be there to stay.
