Medium Capricciosa for me lol.

Just want to say well done on your project, she looks a million bucks, enjoy!

Great colour choice and l also like the traditional Alfa racing look with the white rims.

Cheers

Thanks Mad Dog, the 1st GTV I ever saw was red with white so it's etched in my brain.

Looks great! I've always liked the white wheel look, good job.

Thanks Dhdamo, bring you're GTV out to the creek for a spin one day!

The front end was a bit wooly, felt more like a skipper than a driver so out she comes for a front end rebuild. Got some 23mm tb's and 22 mm anti roll to go back in plus all new bushes.

brook308

Thought I'd have to buy/borrow a press but managed to get the upper and lower control arm bushes out with a vice (upper arm) and 3 leg puller (lower arm).

Are you bringing the GTV down to the Alfesta show & shine on Friday George? Can't wait to see it.

Cheers,

Brent

The parts for the suspension have only just left sunny England so I don't think I'll have it back together by Friday.

Nice new bushes courtesy of EB Spares,

4 x lower control
2 x poly upper control arm
2 x poly caster control
1 x new lower ball joint, the other had already been replaced for the rwc

The steering rack was good so hopefully she'll steer a bit better now.

Whilst I had the front end apart I took the opportunity to do the following;

Install 24mm torsion bars, up from the 18m toothpicks,
Install 22mm anti rolll bar up from 18mm stock,
Lower the car 50mm,
Set max caster,
Give it a bit more negative camber, as much as I could get given the stock lower control arm bolt length.

Test drive time!

Gave it a quick alignment, 0 toe, caster 4.5 positive, camber -2.5 deg.

Drove fantastic, only issues, wants to tram rail a bit so I think i'll try some toe in and is way too soft in the back now with stock rear springs. The rear tyres hit the guards on bigger bumps so I'll have to fix that!

Went for a hunt around the creek and got lucky with a set of stiffer lowered sedan rear springs, thanks Waz!

We recon they are the same springs as we have in the track cars at 15mm diameter.

The car now sits 20mm higher at the back, it was 602mm to the rear guards with the stock 12.5mm springs.

Test drove the car on a pizza run and yep, very happy now, it's a car that's fun to drive not scary, very happy chappy!!!

Think I'll stop pissing around with it now and just drive for a while. :)

What offset are your wheels? too close to 0 offset will cause both of these things to happen...

Offset is +22, handling is good now, front end grip is great!
My toe settings were off when I first set the alignment.

OK,

My son wants to restore this old 77 that I had stashed away to use as his 1st road car. I was keeping it for panels for the race car but it's to good to cut up.
Yes is has rust problems but not that bad really, mainly the usual lower panel places but not upper panels.

The A pillars, C pillars, radiator support, around the windscreen and the tail light panel are all very good.

So here we go again, with the help of my son Winton we're going to save this poor old 77 and get her back on the road again.

Cheers
George
