It's been over thirty years since I owned an Alfa Romeo, but I have had one as a company car for the last few years. As I retire in a weeks time I have bought another which I collect next weekend.......

Welcome back to Alfa ownership.

The 166 is a lot of metal for your money.  But ensure you get it thoroughly checked out as there are a few expensive issue that are well know on these cars - the main one being the leaking plastic heater over the computer circuits behind the electronic climate control/radio unit.

There is an aftermarket fix with Maranello Pursang Motors where they install a protective tray but some people have a metal one made up.

Hi John,
Thanks for the good advice, I have been looking at various forums and am making a check list for preventative measures.
The 166 has travelled only 62000 KM with an excellent service history so I'm hopeful that there wont be to many nasty surprises.

Welcome Andrew,

I also own a 166 update, although not a TI. I like the update model far more than the first series.

A much underrated car.

Have to agree, would not have bought an early one even if low K's and dirt cheap.
