Mazjooz

Hi,

I decided it was in my best interests to join this forum as I have recently come into possession of a 1982 Giulietta (the house I recently bought was a deceased estate so we purchased all the remaining stuff at the house) and am probably going to need a bit of advise on restoring it since this is my first Alfa.

I am moving to country Victoria very soon (currently on the Whitsunday coast in QLD) and am expecting this to become a bit of a hobby for me.

Look forward to talking to you guys more.

Welcome to the forum Mazjooz.

I'm newish to the forums and like yourself, am on the forum to seek advice. So I'm looking forwarding to seeing your restoration :)

Welcome to the forum and importantly Alfa ownership. My first Alfa and car was a Giulietta - a unique car, I wish I still had mine. Keep it and enjoy!

I liked the look of the 80's Guilietta's, but they were bad for rust, a lot of the foam and stick on trim used to harbour water and start rust, we used to get a lot come along to Spectacolo years ago, but have not seen one for years.
They were a great car to drive, but the dashboard was a bit hit and miss with switches here and there and the speedo and tacho needles went in opposite directions, which took a bit of getting used to!
Hope you enjoy your car and join the Alfa Romeo Owners Club for maximum enjoyment, Colin.

Welcome to Alfa ownership - good to see that you are looking forward to getting this car on the road.
Interesting project from the 80's. Obviously a new battery and see what happens, replace all fluids and leads.  Once running then a trip to Melbourne to get an Alfa specialist who knows the car to tune it and get it at it's best.  They can tell you what to do and what not to do. That will make a difference.

Let us know if it is a 1.8 or 2.0 lt and post some more pics.

Note that there are regional activites of sorts and we will be having a "Giulietta Tribute" at our annual Spettacolo in November.  All welcome.

Hope to see you and your car there.

Cheers.

Thanks guys. The car is a 1.8 and I haven't had a proper chance to go over the car (only settled on the house yesterday) but from what I have found there is some rust under the front windscreen on the passenger side but otherwise it is clean. It has been sitting under that car port for quite a while as the guy who owned it hadn't been able to drive it due to his eyesight failing and only has 25K on the clock so hopefully it isn't too bad.

Luckily I have a brother who is a Panel Beater/Spraypainter by trade so I will have to get him busy  ;D

Welcome.
Here's some inspiration for you. Never let anyone tell you that a Joolie can't look tough. When you're done, be sure it looks like this one and you'll be struttin' with the cool crowd. ;D

Hi Mazjooz and welcome to the Alfa passion (obsession)  ;)

I would definitely suggest what John Hanslow mentioned regarding the 2014 Spettacolo in late November, as it will be a great source of inspiration and tech banter from fellow enthusiasts.  ;D

I just wish I'd found an Alfa (any Alfa) in the shed when I bought my place a few years back. Talk about hidden property values ...

I would definitely be interested in turning up but I doubt the Giulietta will be ready by then. Will have a lot on my plate the next few months.

Well not with that attitude  :o

Even if you the car isn't ready, it is totally worth turning up  :D

Looks like my first Giulie.
That was #4 in my on-going collection. If it's ever been in SA it could have been mine. It's the right colour scheme.

And what a great car it was. The 1.8 always liked to rev more than the 2.0 IMHO. Had that when #1 son was in a capsule and the capsule fitted in the back seat no worries.

By the time #2 came along, swambo had insisted we trade it in on a R30 Skyline wagon and the same capsule wouldn't fit unless the front seat was all the way forward with the back forward as well.

Plenty of room in Alfa sedans.

Welcome to Alfa ownership.

So the move is finally over and I have had a chance to give the Giulietta a proper inspection. Basically the car is in great condition. I have to clean out the shed so I can move it in there and start work draining and replacing fluids so I can try starting it but first inspection of the body shows very small amounts of rust under the front windscreen (see pics) but that is it.

This is the worst of the body rust on the passenger side

And just a small amount near the seal on the driver side.

The interior is faultless apart from a couple of stains on one of the seats

My Gerni showed up with the rest of my stuff yesterday, so when I have finished unpacking (and the weather clears up) I will give it a good clean and take some more photos. At the moment though I am pretty happy with the pick-up.
