Hi everyone,

I have bought a 2004 Alfa Romeo 156. Car has done 77,000kms. Great condition and just had a major.

I started my car and got out. got in 5 minutes later and the transmission was stuck in neutral.
turned the car off. waited 10minutes and the car was fine.

2nd time - started my car. pushed down break and started driving. 2metres along the road the car goes into neurtal and rolls.

Their is a transmission looking light flashing on my dash. Ive had the car for 1 week but it has only happened twice. I drive long kms every day.

Anyone have any advice? I called up Alfa and they want to charge $250.00 just to diagonise it. my fear is that the problem wont occur when I take it in.

I usually open my door, close it and the pump starts to make a noise which takes about 10 seconds. i then take off. I always drive on city mode.

The both times, the pump didnt make any noise when I started my car.

im not sure whether this problem occurs all the time.

Any advise anyone?

Thanks!

Rule number one - Don't go to an Alfa dealer. They are useless, and are only really an option if they sold you a new car.  So find yourself a reputable Alfa/Italian car specialist workshop nearest to you. There will be someone on here who can tell you the best choice nearest your home.

I would be surprised if they charge you anything to hook you up to diagnostics.
