Rear Window Trim

Hi All,

Sorry about all the recent posts lately, however, just wanting to get some things fixed on my car.

Another niggly little thing is the rear trim on the top of the window has lifted and is actually peeling the paint off the roof.

Can someone please let me know how I fix it? I haven't been able to push it back in.

does anyone know of a company that will come and repair this as I am assuming the windows seal will need to be replaced.

Hi Joe, that later style of stainless trim is designed to spread the rubber so it seals against the bodywork.   DO NOT ATTEMPT to peel it out of the rubber.  You'll bend it, or worse, kink it.  Pushing it back in might work if you very carefully prise out the top corner trims, lubricate, and try to apply pressure along the trim fairly evenly.  From memory though, you risk bending all the teeth.  Make sure it's parked in the sun to warm it all up.   One of the lanoline-based products like Lanotec will make a good lubricant/rust preventative and won't harm the rubber.

If that doesn't work the next best thing is to pull the rear glass and rubber complete. Best let a pro do this.  Tend to any rust, be liberal with the rustproofer, and reinstall the glass & rubber with the trim already inserted.

Good luck sourcing a replacement rubber, particularly for the rear window, but you never know your luck.  Call all the windshield replacement shops.
