All - g'day
Bought my son a 156 JTS early 2002 manual 262K km in red - $900 off ebay ex-Sydney and we're just about to put it back on the road - work done to date:

Full set of brake discs and pads; timing / balance belts / water-pump; rocker gasket & plug seals; oil / fuel / air / pollen filters; front inner steering rod and joint; front lower wishbones; all leather out and cleaned properly; new fog light; various odds and sods tidied up; multiecuscan software and cable set (essential) to reset all the warnings due to flat battery.

Hardest bit to sort out was the drippy headlamp washer problem with water running out constantly - would not pass its QLD safety inspection. Issue lies just behind and above the middle of the front bumper - a three legged check valve in which a rubber diaphragm basically hardens off and will not seal.

Fastest way to get at it all is to drop off the front valance - pretty straight forward job - all you need a a suitable torx screwdriver, phillips head screwdriver and assorted zip ties, pliers etc. You do need to pull out the inner wheel arch plastic liners to get at the three torx screws that hold the upper valance lip to the main body.

Part is really hard to get hold of and Bl**dy expensive for a bit of plastic!! It has 8mm o/d pipe tails which are really big for a washer system compared with later cars and other models.

Ended up tracking down a Landrover Discovery 2 check valve that is identical part.
Available ex : British Car Components, Melbourne [mailto:britcar@westnet.com.au] Part no DNE100050 $11.67 +gst =$12.84 - Graeme

This is in contrast to an Alfa part ex-UK for $80!!

[Notes
1) the small grey Y ones advertised on ebay supposedly for 2002 JTS do not fit - they are 4mm pipe tails
2) There are identical looking ones for Saab/Volvo on ebay BUT are 5/6mm pipe tails
3) Needs to be a pressure check valve - a one way valve (normal in most systems) do work - head from washer bottles keep the valve open
Now don't ask why I know all of this!!]

Can send picture of part if needed - don't know how to attach one to this post - sorry!!
