Former F1 driver Andrea De Cesaris died overnight in his birthplace Rome aged 55.

After 200 GP starts he is perhaps best remembered by Alfisti for his pole position at US West GP for Alfa Romeo, at 22yrs the youngest driver in F1 to start from the front row in 1982.

That year Andrea was also only the second Alfa Romeo driver to capture a pole since 1952.

On the subject of F1 drivers my thoughts are for Jules Bianchi as he fights to recover from surgery following the terrible accident in yesterdays Japan GP.
The Alfa Romeo heritage "rinascimento" (renaissance) continues in each and every new model...the first "rinascimento" being 1915.

Very sad news indeed. When he started in F1 you never knew how long the car would stay in the track. But a good driver and apparently very well liked.
