156 Selespeed problem

Hi everyone and a Happy New Year too all. I have a 2000 - 2001 156. I am having a few problems with the gearbox. While warming up I am able to select all gears and all is good. Once the vehicle has warmed up I have problems moving from 2nd to 3rd gear. I end up trying various methods to move to third. Sometimes I shift with the gear stick once and the steering wheel selector once. Sometimes I need to select 3rd three or four times before it selects third. The problem only appears once the vehicle is warmed up. Does anyone have an idea what may be happening?
