I incurred a broken windscreen on my near new Alfa Romeo Giulietta in  Melbourne over the weekend. Any advice or contacts for the repair thereof would be appreciated – thank you.
(1) Does the car require a genuine Alfa Romeo seal or will a generic one suffice?
(2) Should the car be taken to a registered Alfa Romeo service centre for a new replacement?

I would call Windscreen O'Brians or National Windscreens or similar, the windscreens are glued to the body and don't have a seal as in the olden days, your car insurance may include a windscreen claim, contact your insurance company and see if you have one and if they cover your windscreen, if they do, they may have a tieup with a windscreen replacement company, they will usually do it at your workplace or home during working hours, so much more convenient than taking your car there.
Tell us how you go with the screen, Colin.

If its a new car, then you shouldn't be worried about. Have a word with your dealership and also the insurance company, you should certainly be matched with a trusted Alfa Romeo repair contact..

It is recommended to not drive the car for a few hours after installation.

If you are going to get a windscreen replacement through your insurance, push for an original. At my work, a colleague replaced his windscreen in his landcruiser through his insurance but they put in a non genuine item and he was not really happy with the quality. If your insurance is paying for it push for an original, if you need to pay for it and the difference to get a genuine one is too much then get an aftermarket.

If it is insured and I assume it is, why not just take it to the dealer to fix it?

Dealers will usually sub contact it out to a windscreen specialist, but the Dealers will know the ones that do good work and will use them, so they don't get hassled with leaks and warranty claims.
A Genuine Alfa Romeo windscreen would be the best, but it depends on the price and who is paying for it, Colin.
