Found 2 bolts with broken off heads when replacing the filter. One of the 2 bolts attaching the air con pipes bracket has lost its head with the threaded part still in the hole. Also one of the bolts attaching the protective plate for the same air con pipes at the front of the engine. Whilst sourcing bolts at a bolt shop! learnt that there are left handed drill bits that when used to drill out the centre of the remains of the in situ bolt will help ease out the bolt. Will remove the broken bolts next service. Will update this post with bit size and how the job went.
The old repco filter was very tight and crushed it slightly when using oil filter pliers from SCA. Couldnt shift it by hand and the strap type remover wasnt practical in the confined space. When tightening the new repco filter by hand could only turn it thru 190 degrees. Didnt attempt the 360 deg advised by repco with pliers. Had previously sourced an oem filter from an after mkt supplier which turned out to be oversize and for a GTA! Happily the supplier is exchanging. Interestingly the repco filter is shorter than the ryco, (less filtering area?) dont know how it compares to an oem yet!
When moving the air con pipes out of the way to swop filters, was only able to make space by moving them towards the back of the car. Also left the sump plug out to drain overnight, still dripping slowly next morning. Took the car for a first time ever quick drive after being bought from the wreckers and 12 months off the road, goes good! lovely engine note.
