Giulietta front rotor replacement

Hi Fellow Alfisti,

My sister has  a Giulietta diesel which has 19000 KLMS on the clock and is 2 years old and the Brisbane dealer has told her she needs new front disc rotors and they are adamant that they will not be replaced under warranty???
The pads are original and still have plenty of "meat" on them.

Is anyone aware of issues with these items, we have 2 other Alfa's (147 GTA & 159 2.4JTDm Ti) at home and have never had issues with the rotors on them so early.

I would suspect that rotors that need replacement at such a low mileage are hardly items "fit for purpose" and as such should be replaced FOC but it looks more like another example of the old age tradition of the Alfa dealer network trying to screw the customer to me!!!

What's wrong with the rotors, warped?

Was vehicle braking affected, ie. Did your sister notice?

Measure the disc, minimum is 26mm

Hi Guys,

My sister did not notice any deterioration in braking (she's a girl remember!) however when in at the dealer for a service they said that the pads and rotors need replacement.
I know how she drives and she is not hard on the car so it still seems a worry that they have only lasted 19K.

Discs are definitely worn but not warped however I think they just need machining and a new set of pads.

There does seem to be a fair bit of discussion on this on various overseas forums with the consensus that rotors should be replaced every time you do the pads.

Anyway at nearly $500 per rotor from the dealer plus pads and fitting I would be ordering parts from OS and getting my specialist independent to do the job. (using OEM Brembo parts, she has the 330 Brembo upgrade option, of course so as not to have any ongoing warranty issues with the local distributor).

Give it to your Independent mechanic. Also try the spar place in Adelaide for parts. Very competitive for parts parts considering postage from overseas will be expensive due to the weight.

500 for a rotor... LOL.

I would not hesitate to get RDA items for perhaps $150 range. they are all coated now so don't rust.

Just remember that OEM discs on Alfa's are ATE brand not Brembo. Just because your sister has the "Brembo Brake upgarde" doesn't mean everything brake wise on the car is Brembo. Alfa Romeo have always used ATE discs from as early as the Alfa 105 series cars, right up until now.

The calipers are Brembo, the pads have a small little Brembo "b" on them, but are actually manufactured by Ferodo for Brembo and have Ferodo marking all over them and the brake discs are ATE, so if you're worried about keeping the warranty and not having issues just make sure you get the correct parts.
