Hey yo everyone, I've got a couple of DHLA 40's strapped to the side of the 2L in my Alfetta which I'm about strip down, give it a thorough cleaning, and rebuild. It's the first time I'll be tackling a carb rebuild.

A copy of "Dellorto & Weber Power tuning guide" from the dellorto.co.uk arrived in the post today, which I'll be buried in over the Easter weekend trying to absorb any and all the info, it looks pretty detailed with some pretty good diagrams.

Besides that, taking things slowly and making sure I'm organised/label all the bits and pieces as they come apart, has anyone got any other suggestions or tips? Would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Take pictures of everything you pull apart, for reference and pull one down and rebuild it, keep the other one for looking at to see what goes where.
Brake cleaner available in pressure pack cans is good for cleaning bits down, just don't get it on your skin as it dries it out, Colin.

Once back together and installed you'll need a carby sync tool to make sure all 4 barrels are drawing the same air flow.

It's also essential to make sure the following are in order or tuning the carbies will be difficult.
- ignition timing is correct
- there are no vacuum leaks, the rubber carby mounts can split with age and leak
- spark plugs are good, maybe a good time to change them b4 tuning
- cylinder compression is uniform, if you have a cylinder down on compression you will find it harder to set the idle mixture on that cylinder as it won't be as responsive at the others
