OK swingers, can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier for valve adjustment shims? I will be doing a major service on the 164 very soon and may require the shims after checking valve clearances. Had a search on McGoogle and the forum without any luck, save for the usual overseas suppliers. Surely we must have someone local?

I found http://www.precisionshims.com.au on said search engine.

It's nice to see that we still make things in Oz.

Good luck

Thanks Luna, I've had some PMs and other advice on the phone so there's a few options for me when the time comes. Seems to be just a matter of heading over to an Alfa parts supplier or as you've found a shim manufacturer. Still researching it though as I've noticed an OS supplier describing valve stem thickness difference between early and late Alfas??? It mentioned 8mm and 9mm valve stems, yet I found another that seemed to indicate that all Alfa shims are equal?  Once I get down to checking the clearances I should hopefully have a better yard stick by which to research this and post something up if it's of interest.

If the 164 shims are the same as a 33, then they are the same and more easily available through a Volkswagon Audi specialist, as they fitted the first series Passats, Golfs and Foxes.
But then again i was surprised that the 164 wasn't hydraulic, Colin.

Thanks col, my 164 has the 12 valve engine and from the manual it has shims on the intake valves. The exhausts may be hydraulic as the pushrod has a screw adjustment. They're a small cup shaped shim that sits between the valve end and cap. I was a little confused when first posting as the very short search I did revealed that valve stem size may have been an issue, 8mm v 9 mm. But I've been assured by via PM that my shims are the same as the 105 engines. It's a little too early and won't be certain until/unless I pull the shims out. In any case I will certainly update the post for others to be informed.

I am pretty sure that the shims for 33's and 105's are different.
I needed a unusual size shim and i ended up getting from an ebay site in Italy, Colin.
