I have a GT 1600 Junior 1973.

Would also be really interested if anyone out there has done any research on how many of these cars actually exist in Australia?

1972:
chassis from AR 2205001 to 2205900 (RHD)
1973:
chassis from AR 2205901 to 2206700 (RHD)
1974:
chassis from AR 2206701 to 2207010 (RHD)
1975:
chassis from AR 2207011 to 2207210 (RHD)
chassis from AR 0001001 to 0002057 (RHD)

These cars were only delivered in Australia between 1972-1974, so my calculations say 2009 GT 1.6 Junior's were manufactured world-wide.... so at most 500 maybe delivered to Australia.... so maybe only a couple of hundred of these cars in Australia? ... does that sound right??

An australian delivery rate of 500/2009 maybe a tad optimistic, Australia was a strong but hardly large market. Consider too that the shape was getting to 10yrs old (Giulia sprintGT launched in '64) and it still sold alongside the 2000GTV, which lets face it, if you had the money for an Alfa 105 in those days you probably would have gone all out. At the time the UK was swallowing every last Alfa they could get their hands onto, and South Africa was a thriving export RHD market that built sedans but imported GTs.

I would say maybe 350+ would be a closer guesstimate, with probably half or so around today. These cars would have been first pickings for parts for a 1750 GTV seeing as they share a lot of trim components especially.

It is interesting to note that Juniors of any sort were never sold in North American markets.

Are you a club member Sam2?  If so then you might be interested in the numbers from the club register - get in touch with Mario and see if he has figures for Victoria.

If you're not a club member - you might like to join  ;D

There no 1600 stepnose juniors. Maybe all juniors are listed together in one basket although they have different model designation, 105.31 for 1300 vs. 115.05 for 1600.
All submodels of 1300 junior carry the same model number.

Pete Y

I understand there are no 1600GTJ stepnoses - just querying whether your club figure included early .31 Jnrs.

What I would love to know though, if anyone has information, are the engine stamps?

Mine has a square with what looks to be that christian fish symbol thing !? It also has a round circle with the numbers "20" stamped. I am wondering if someone has perhaps swapped it out and the "20" means a 2 litre engine? Hopefully not as I am (attempting) restoring the car back to original.

Cheers,

Sam.

Pete Y

Yeah its a 2.0L, pretty popular conversion for a .31
1750 has a triangle, 1600 a square, a real 1300 has a diamond i think but someone can correct me on that.

Don't take Fusi as complete gospel all the time, he misses a bit here and there.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the info. I had another look at my engine, it has:

* A square!
* A round circle with that Christian fish symbol? stamped in it
* A round circle with "20" stamped in it

It didn't feel like a 2 litre engine when i was driving it but I could be wrong.. (the engine is about to be ripped out atm!). So I am thinking going by the square and the general feel of it when i drove it, is that it is a 1600 !?

Cheers,

Sam.

Pete Y

Yeah it's possible you have the correct engine then. Yay! I'll re-check with my Braden book later, it's just on a very high shelf at the moment..

I don't know if this helps but... I was googling around yesterday and found Australian delivery i.d numbers and the symbols on the head that identifies the capacity of the motor.
It is on the Australian alfa website at   www.alfaclub.org.au/modelc.htm
This brings up Australian delivery identification codes, if you click on the bottom left orange box (Australian delivery model identification) it then gives you the symbols on the head- engine capacity.
This may be totally of no help whatsoever but it helped us!
