My 2003 model 147 2.0L Selespeed makes concerning noises when changing down to 2nd occasionally, but does the job whether in city mode manual or using paddles, occasionally I have trouble getting into reverse, and occasionally it jumps into neutral without warning when changing down usually to second gear

Gear changes are a bit clunky, especially when the car is just started, seems to become smoother when warmed up

have no record of when car was last serviced, but did speak to cars usual mechanic who test drove it and told me that he had advised previous owner to service the Selespeed, but that it was functioning correctly and appears to have been done

Is this just normal Selespeed Characteristics or do I have a problem

By the sounds of it, it just needs a service, recalibration & the push rod adjusted.

Just make sure you give it to someone who knows what they are doing with selespeeds.

Hello Bazz,
Many thanks for your reply, will have the service done!

Can you recommend anyone up on Selespeeds in the Sydney area, or North Shore

Gday Hamlet,

Question,
When you go to select first gear from standstill, does it clunk into gear and the car jumps forward a tiny bit?

If so my educated guess would be it will need a new clutch.

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply Mick, but no it doesnt jump at all when engaging first gear, but when I engage first or reverse and go to move off sometimes I feel resistance, as though the handbrake was on, but not smooth resistance, as it catches and then seems to release, but then goes altogether with further acceleration in first gear

Interesting, but hard to diagnose further without seeing the car.

Hopefully once you have a specialist take a look they will be able to fix it up for you.

What you described to me in your post just then sounded almost like clutch solenoid symptoms, but not really sure it could be simple as Baz said that it needs adjustment. When the clutch solenoid has had it, they don't take off smoothly, they sort of surge or bunny hop as it engages and then disengages the clutch irregularly.

Cheers.
