It ain't gonna happen, but it's a nice thought. Maybe one day, if they extend their Renault deal for long enough to get the basic development work completed before they are ready to race.

It would be nice to see Alfa Romeo back in racing....and out of Masterchef, but only if it was done properly and not like their last few efforts in Formula 1 in the 70' and 80's.
Remember the straight 4 cylinder 1.5 litre turbo fiasco that Ligier were going to use, but gave it the lemonade and sars, when it was proved to be as Rene Arnoux put it "used food".
Then there was the Indycar project that Ferrari started, when they weren't getting on with Bernie, and had it ready to go for a switch away from Formula 1 to Indycars, Bernie and Ferrari kissed and made up and the Ferrari Indycar project become the Alfa Romeo Indycar project that petered away with little success after a few years, Colin.

Yep, you just have to look at Maclaren Honda this year to see how it can go pear shaped if the pre-racing development is half baked. And as the article says, it would be tough for Fiat-Chrysler to allow an Alfa-engined car to outdo the Fezzas.

Maybe they should develop an Alfa engine to run in feeder series like GP2 and GP3, as the little brother to the Ferrari F1 team. That way they could keep it a family affair, and could develop the Alfa-powered car to its potential without upsetting Papa...

Honda started out in the modern era with turbo's in 1983 with the Spirit team and after a few stumbles, become a powerhouse.
Cannot see it happening with a second tier Ferrari Motor and as for GP2, no one cares about that.
It would be good to see Alfa go Touring Car Racing or Endurance racing, but can't see them beating Porsche, even with the current problems with huge fines for Volkswagon-Audi in the future.
One of the rumours about Red Bull not getting Mercedes Motors is that in 2 years time when Audi buy Red Bull, Mercedes didn't want Red Bull having an intimate knowledge of their engines to pass onto Audi.
Talk about not burning your bridges.....Colin.

Unfortunately, it seems there is no natural home for race-specced Giulia to compete in, given most touring car series (outside Oz and NZ) are  restricted to 4 cylinders

On more important matters - I'm sure I saw an Alfasud in the promos for the upcoming new season of Wheeler Dealer on Foxtel (Discovery Turbo channel)!
