G'day,

I want to remove a rear vent cover from my 81 GTV (plastic bumper), so I can take it to get some colour matched paint.
Can someone tell me how to get it off?

Thanks,

poohbah

See same topic I started a month or so ago. There are three screws on each you can undo from inside rear hatch. 5 minute job, just pull the carpet lining down.

Yes, as above. They are 10mm nuts (I think, maybe 8mm?). The other end of the bolt is captive to the vent cover.

Goodo, glad I can finally help someone out!

As long as you know your paint code, you should be able to refurbish them yourself. Only needs a bit of elbow grease to to tidy them up, primer and indoor room to apply fresh paint with no wind interference.

Paint made to the paint code on the sticker is too silver.

The car, including the plastic vent cover was repainted before I got it (I bought it in 1996).

It is my intention to take the vent cover to the paint shop so they can analyse the colour with their spectrographic thingy.

Fair enough. Interesting your vents are body colour. I have an 81 GTV too and covers are matt black, in contrast to the grey duco.
