I have had a few cars in my time and the most unreliable vehicle
was my new 2001 ml 270 diesel mercedes it spent more time in the work shop than on the road
finally a flood took it away . and to all you aethiests out there
there is a god
at One time at the workshop they said and i quote "we have never seen one melt the inlet plastic manifold before"
i said can I have alook ,so I followed them into the workshop to find not 2 cars away the same model car with the same problem .You should have seen the faces they wanted me to pay for it but I never did as I drove away on a test drive and never came back they said we will sue me for the $3000 I said try, I would love to drag mercedes through the courts. Never heard from again .Nor would I ever never not on my still beating heart buy a Merceded Benz again.

then  followed by my new commodore  which prior to delivery (new) i had the nrma check
they said it wasnt road worthy and needed the entire paintwork redone and it used oil like the exon valdez
being young i did not realise you could not take delivery.
next was a ford escort with lotus motor (not its fault ) I over worked it ( bloody fast)
the most reliable cars I have owned was a 1989 bmw 535 and my 1979 alfetta
NO i am not biased and my wife agrees! great  cars !

I'm from Perth and a few years ago was in Melbourne for an extended period helping my son renovate his house. While I was there I needed transport and bought an '86 Alfa Sprint to get around. I already had a Sprint back in Perth undergoing a long term restoration and justified the purchase on the grounds that the new car would be a good reference point for the restoration. After a few months in Melbourne it was time to return to Perth and I decided to drive back home. My wife flew over from Perth and after having the car serviced by Beninca Motors and re-gassing the A/C,  we set off in December heat on a 3,400km journey across Australia. We had no major incidents apart from the radiator clogging up with locusts ( had to install fly wire mesh to protect it along the way), and a close encounter with a kangaroo heading into Norseman at dusk. The car ran fantastically despite the heat, although by the end of the trip the A/C no longer had any gas in it. I still drive the Sprint on a daily basis and make sure it gets the regular services it deserves. The Reno car unfortunately still hasn't progressed very far but I'm working on it.

As i have said previously Alfa drivers love to talk about there adventures good or bad
German car drivers never talk about the bad because no one else does so they think they are the only ones with a lemon.see previous post.
Japanese car drivers on a whole ( not all) barely understand the concept of driving so when one of those cars go wrong
its off to the dealer because thats what they do. ignorance is bliss .
then we have the french they are quirky and they feel betrayed when things dont go wrong
English? well after LUCAS Prince of Darkness anything that works is Brilliant
The problem with average alfa driver, I being one of them, is the classic phrase" A little knowledge is a dangerous thing" we love to drive and quite well at that!
we understand enough to get our hands dirty
And then thats when the rot sets in, some of us like to tinker to get that extra 2 hp out of them
the rest as they say is history

Alfa drivers love to talk about there adventures good or bad

For sure Carlo. I've only owned 2 Alfas (so far!), they've both had their ups and downs and I've spent some spondula along the way, but I've had more fun with them and learnt more from them than any of the other 15-odd cars I've ever owned.

And both have had me looking for excuses to get out on the road at any and every opportunity just because they've made driving a pleasure again. Which is something I probably hadn't really felt since I first got my licence nearly 30 years ago.

My GTV is my daily driver, its got some rough edges and has been known to go on strike occasionally. But I reckon it must be magic, 'cos it can even make peak hour fun. I even took the long way home tonight just so I could drive through the Graham Farmer Tunnel (Perth's longest tunnel) with the sunroof open and windows down to listen to the glorious noise. Max speed in the tunnel is 80kph, so I had to drop her down a couple of cogs to get some joy without also getting a ticket ...
