Spider ABS sensor

So my Spider threw up an ABS light last week, with the odd brake light (which goes away of you turn the car off and on). The mechanic put the diagnostic on it and whilst it didn't show a fault, it showed no activity in one of the front sensors. Sent me away whilst he looked into parts (ABS is working fine) and called today to say I'm looking at $490 fitted as he could only source genuine parts. Is there other options?

Hello Jim, i had one go bad in my 156, purchased a second hand one from an Alfa Wrecker and it did the trick.
You could try a wrecker such as Monza Motors down here in Bayswater in Melbourne, freight wouldn't be too bad as the sensors are only a bit of wire and plug and sensor, hope this helps, Colin.

Alfa Workshop are also very reputable, I do most of my purchases from them and they are super fast with delivery. Shipped from them its about $190. Its the CF1 model at bottom of page.

Cheers for that. Looking at the manual it looks like a fairly straight forward swap. Just have to find in the manual what the specified grease to seat it with is.

Hi Jim, sounds like you have identified the problem and are sorting it out, but just thought I'd mention I had a very similar issue with my 156 last year with mystery cause for ABS light coming on. Workshop was struggling to identify the problem after about 40 mins, but on a gut feel the mechanic checked the battery. Turned out to be a blown fuse in the box that sits on top of the battery. Charged me $15 for the fuse, and nothing for the time spent fiddling about.

Just a thought before you spend a couple of hundred smackers.

Jim, Does the brake/ABS lights only come on if you apply your brakes rather firmly, like enough to cause the ABS to activate?

No the ABS light stays on constantly. I topped up the brake fluid and haven't had the brake light come in again since. Will get a chance this week to have a look at the fuses, and if that's all good look into ordering a sensor.
They don't look too hard to replace.

As is always the case the end of the year came and went, finally got to swap the fuses but that hasn't solved the issue, so looks like a sensor is the go.

Got to take the car out for the first spin of the year yesterday after 2 weeks away, great fun.

So finally got the part out of Alfaworkshop and turns out that I've ordered the CF2 part not the CF3....
