limit suspension straps

Hi Has anyone had the issue when fitting lowered springs to there Alfetta GTV6 , Spring height is shorter than standard and when the car is lifted springs move out of position.

Has anyone used spring limit straps.

Hi sportiva,
Yes my GTV has the rubber and steel seat fitted.
I brought these rear coils from a spring suspension place.
These springs are done correctly and sit 50 mm lower than standard. $:-\$

Unsprung weight the spring is 50 mm lower than the standard spring.

So you're trying to limit the droop of the suspension when you jack the car up/put it on the hoist so the springs don't fall out??

Welcome to the world of having a lowered Alfetta series style car.
The most sensible option instead of using straps would be to find some shorter shock absorbers to replace the ones you have to limit some of the droop. that way when you jack up the car/put it on the hoist, the shorter shocks should stop the springs falling out.

Failing that, how often will you be jacking up/put the car on the hoist? If it isn't that often then just make sure before you lower back to the ground that the springs are in the correct spot.

Hi Domenic,The car is always on the hoist so I have more room in the shed.
Duk , Good idea photo's, will go with the retaining bracket on the saddle.

By far the simplest, lightest and most elegant solution is the hold down clamp as referenced by the Dukster. I did attempt to do a hold down strap version but this is a lot more involved and problematic. See photo.

I should add though that for rally applications where full suspension travel is expected, the clamp will hold the spring in situ but there is always a possibility that the top of the spring may not land exactly back into its home location giving rise to a potential issue. Having a suspension LIMITING strap would be the answer for these types of applications.

For my race car with a very limited amount of suspension travel on race circuits does not/has not indicated any problems to date.
