rechroming bumpers

Hi all, anyone know of a place in melbourne that does this,did you shop around?
i hear its not cheap,looking to do front and rear for 68 model 1750

There is a place in Dandenong that specialise in this....just next door to Paint Mobile.  Cannot remember their name, but i will be going that way in the next day or so, I will post their details when I go past next.

I do know a place sportscar but like Phil I cant think of the name!!
A classic old workshop and a classic old bloke who's been in the metal biz for years.
I got him to re chrome some pillar caps and repair a badly dinged stainless Spider bumper.
He was imformative, sensibly priced and does great buffing work as well as the chroming he did for me.
I'm away at the moment but on my return I'll get back and give you the name.
Maybe though you can find him yourself.
He has a single front door to his workshop and it's between a Brakes Plus and a motor cycle shop.
I think the Brakes plus is at 827 Nepean Hwy East Brighton.
Good luck with it.

Hang on guys, why in the world would you want to re-chrome your 105 Alfa bumper bar.  All 105s to the best of my knowledge are stainless steel.

All you need to do is re-polish them if they are dull ?? Even if they have dents in them, because they are stainless, these can be pannelled out and polished by experts.  Well that is the advice I have always been told. Cheers Dave

My Spider certainly has a stainless rear bumper but I'm not sure what else has.
And as to the job on mine, thats exactly what I had done.
He rolled out a bad ding and re polished my rear bumper.
Think I had an American guy on the BB asking me what metal polish I used!
I was really impressed with this blokes knowledge and the job he did.
I'd recommend his work. Old school.

Yes, thanks, thought I was correct, as all the 105s and ealy 116 Alfas I have owned (2 Supers, my 1750 GTV, 2L Berlina (gone to the great car grave), and the Alfetta 1.8 sedan had stainless steel bumpers.  This is the beauty in it.  I dont know what polish the professional platers/polishers use but the results can be superb.  You similarly can polish the alloy rocker cover of the twin cam motor, including the oil filer cap. I know while not original it does look impressive. 

For maintaining the polish of stainless steel on an Alfa, I normally use metal polish bought from any car parts shops, Autoglym make an excellent one and there is another one I just cant think of at the moment.  Love the Spider. I have never owned one but have driven a couple. Is yours a Kamn tail or round tail ?  Yeah winter not so good for Spiders with the top down but then again when the snow comes, I will be heading to the slopes.

hi i found a place on malvern rd in prahran who does electroplating (opposite Joels Auctions) and rechroming but i haven't done them yet .The car is not registered still and carby's need reco and wiring dramas ???Still these cars are worth it ,theyre not making any more 105's

Hey Sportscar your bumper bars should be the stainless steel type which don't require chroming. Usually a good scrub up with steel wool for initial inspection, then repair any dings and have them polished by a metal polisher. You can choose the level of briliance, as some people don't like the too highly polished look on Alfas for the very reason that most have stainless steel bars which appears a little duller. Only very early 1600 105's with one piece bars prior to 1966 were chromed mild steel. There are a few other 105's around that have had their stainless steel bars chromed, but I personally think that that is a waste of money. Also you will find that all your other bright work, around the roof line etc are also stainless and just need a good rub up to bring back the original shine. Good luck.
