Hello nazfaz, welcome to the Forum, last night we had a 105 workshop night at Maranello Pursang Motors in Brunswick, because of the large turnout, there will be another one next year, book early and come along, there is a Display day in November called The Alliance Spectacolo at Wesley College in St.Kilda, polish your car up and bring it along, Colin.

Can someone tell me how is this possible.. A few months ago I purchased a 2013 Giulietta. A week ago I had a power failure and my radio turned its self off and when power came back it asked for a code. I checked in my service books and no code available. After contacting a local Alfa dealer in Melbourne I was told to refer to the original dealer in Queensland where the car was originally sold. No luck ... then again I asked the local dealer what can be done and they said they have to ask request the code and it will cost $200.00 or so ...Is this normal?

cheers

Naz, its a not uncommon problem with new cars of all types. I had the same problem a few years back with my Ford Escape. Changed the battery, and only then discovered I didn't have the code anywhere. Went to the dealer and told to try the original dealership that sold the car new  (the car was already 5 years old). Long story short, it was originally sold on the other side of country (Broken Hill!), and the dealership had changed hands and had no record. In the end, the cheapest option was just to upgrade the stereo, so you are probably lucky you can get it for $200. That said, if its still under new car warranty they should be able to get the details for nothing. How long is the warranty on a Giulietta.

It would be cheaper to buy the removal tool on ebay for $15, pull the radio forward, get the model & serial numbers the  go to the uk site www.alfaowner.com and search the forums for someone to give you the code for it, there are several individuals there who gladly carry out such service for free on that site.

If you're not comfortable in pulling the radio to get the numbers take it to your local Car Sound Specialist and they will do it for a small fee or a six pack. ;)

I had the same problem with the 156 a few years ago, and tried one of these free sites, but the code they kept giving me was wrong, you have to give them your serial number of the head unit, and they send you back a code, but every time you put the wrong code in, the head unit locks you out a bit longer, at one stage i was locked out for 24 hours, ended up paying one of the commercial sites about $10, and they gave me the correct code, Colin.

Col, remember which commercial site it was? At $10 I wouldn't even bother giving Alfa Romeo a call  :)
