GTV upholstery query

Just wondering if anyone else has had their GTV/Alfetta seats reupholstered, and if they can provide any advice, war stories, recommendations etc?

The seats on my 81 GTV are actually in pretty good shape, so I'm not in a rush to refurbish them, but they were recovered in fairly cheap black fabric by previous owner a few years back which looks a bit naff. Ideally, I'd like to get them done in something closer to the factory velour trim.

I've seen some US-made covers for GTV/GTV6 seats advertised online but the price (US$840/set) is a bit frightening and that's for tan or black vinyl.

I haven't seen any used/rescued seats in local wreckers, so the only other option would seem to be getting a trimmer to recover them - which I also fear will be hideously expensive.

My success won't be of any help, but I re-upholstered my recaro Lx mesh headrest seats and full Interior in the final remaining roll of tan/cream pinstripe velour.
I successfully matched the tan vinyl with furniture vinyl from a place in Glebe, Sydney.
I couldn't match the plain tan velour, but I was able to pick out the cream/light tan pinstripe colour and match from a swatch provided by re-trimmer, so it doesn't look like a bad match, but a deliberate colour choice.

I think it would be entirely possible to un-pick the anthracite from your current seats and match the rest.

IMO, it's the pin stripes that make it!
Good luck, please post photos

Thanks Julian. You've given me a couple of things to think about.

Thanks kartone. Would you mind saying roughly how much it cost?

Just looking for a real ballpark idea.

Just checked out your pics - those seats look great, and the colour looks pretty close to the velour on my door cards.

Very envious!

This might seem a stupid question - but does anyone know if the seats in the earlier 116 GTVs (including first plastic bumper models liker my 81) are actually the same as fitted to later model 105s?

Looking at pics online, my re-covered seats seem to be a bit slimmer profile than the plusher-looking velour of some GTV's and look very similar to those in late 105s. May open up some more options. Ignoring the beautiful leather of the 105 seats below, you can see what I mean in comparison with my shabbier GTV seats.

Hey mate, my seats are black leather and i think aren't original but fit in ok, maybe next time we catch up you can have a look they could be out of another model, did the 116s come out with leather seats?.

poohbah

I think you could get them in leather, vinyl and velour depending on trim spec of the car.
