Thinking of removing my front mudguards to look for cracks, rust and maybe do some chassis strengthening.  Plus for some cracking bog issues on guards so time to do something.  I know they are spot welded on, but how hard are they to do?  Need spot weld drill and sand to find welds.  How are they joined to the nose cone and the front panel under the bumper?  What about to the A pillar?  I assume the windscreen has to come out?

Once that is done has anyone converted to bolt on guards?  I wrecked a 75 a while back and they are a snack to get the front guard off.  Any photos or links gratefully accepted.

Hi Flynn,

Bottom line is that it is all cutting and spot welds - so definitely not easy;

Cut required on the A-pillar;

Pretty straight forward down the bonnet channel;

Up front the seams are spot welded on the flanges below the panel surface - tricky to get a drill in there;

No real option to make it a bolt-on system I'm afraid - sharp drills and a welder mandatory!!

Thanks for the detailed info.  Getting off one thing, getting back a whole other.
