Selespeed Gearbox Install , Selector Shaft Stuck?

Spent the day putting in a "new" Selespeed box today , it's been reconditioned recently.
I tested the selector plunger and it selected all the gears before installing, including reverse gear

Had trouble getting the box in place, first time at it.
*I find now as i try to install the actuator the selector shaft won't retract into the box and so i can't engage gears?

Have i burred the selector plunger bore or have i bent something getting it in?

Disappointing day!

Help .

Tried turning the gears , wheel to help, clutch put in release, propped to help but the shaft won't budge.

Help guys?
