Love the beast - but still beaten into the ditch by Alfa

Was just watching Eric Bana's fantastic Love the Beast doco about his awesome XB Coupe (again...), when I noticed for the first time that the car that went off the road in the Targa Tasmania before him at the same spot was an Alfa GTV6 (they show a pic of it during the second Jay Leno clip).

Alfa first again...

And who says you need 600bhp to get squirrelly and head into the weeds?

For those who haven;t seen the doco,I reckon its still one of the best car movies ever made. And yes, he did end up completely rebuilding the XB a couple of years later.

Yes, great movie, remember seeing it at the pictures and of course purchased the disc later on
A car can only be as good as its driver  :D  the car that went off the corner was a GTV, a GTV6 would have been around the corner already  ;D

Nice pick up Veesix - I don't recall seeing the bonnet bulge due to the tree being in the way!

Went back and checked, you're spot on (1:04:40 into the doco). Makes me want to take my GTV to Tassie.

Poobah / VeeSix.

This was the Alfa that Col Wenzel (Vale) and myself campaigned in Targa 06/07

The Alfetta was a reasonably standard 2.0GTV in order to comply with SS Targa regs.  It was an awesome car to take to Targa, well set-up, but being a little under-powered the only way to be competitive was to be very brave.  In 06 we won the class, in 07 we pushed too hard trying to make ground on Alan Broadhurst.

The corner that claimed us (and Eric) in 07 was a double caution 4 narrowing to a 2.  In the post mortem Col claimed I never called the tighening and I reminded him that we were locked-up on entry, long before the corner tightened.  Either way the outcome was we didn't make the corner and got to spend an hour chewing the fat with the Hulk.

I loved it on Lenno when Banna described you guys as "two guys dressed like Martians that came out of nowhere". And the reply of where did you guys come from . . . ."oh, that's our car at the BOTTOM of the hill" came across as if you had just proudly one some sort of twisted Testosterone competition of sorts.

The good old "lets see who can crash to the bottom of the gully first and furthest" competition comes to mind!

;D

If I tell the missus I'm heading off in the GTV to Tassie, I won't need a car to end up at the bottom of the hill ...

Much as I would love to join the fun David.
