Various "Cars and Coffee" events are organised by different individuals at different times and locations. These events are becoming quite popular and can attract a large number of participants. They can be great fun and an excellent opportunity to catch up with other motoring enthusiasts in a casual setting. Please note that, unless specifically stated by AROCA Queensland, these events are not official AROCA Queensland events, even if listed on the Queensland event calendar or forum for general information of members. In these instances, AROCA Queensland does not arrange a CAMS permit. Participants are to satisfy themselves that the event organisers have the necessary insurances covering the event and, if they are participating as an individual, it is covered by their own motor insurance and any requirements of special vehicle registration. For further information, please contact the AROCA Queensland Committee: http://www.arocaqld.com/cms/pageDisplay.php?module=page&pid=13

Errr, ok - but what does CAMS have to do with a bunch of people standing around in suburban brisbane drinking coffee? Or are you talking about those Downshift idiots?

AROCA QLD's insurance is through the club's CAMS affiliation. So for a club social event to be covered by the club's insurance, the club applies to CAMS for a social permit. So if an event is on the club's Social Calendar, the club will get such a permit and hence it will be covered by insurance. If a social event is not on the Social calendar (such as Cars and Coffee which is on the "Other" Calendar), it's there for the information of members, but the club takes no responsibility. Hence, Keith's suggestion that you check with the organisers of those events about their insurances, if you have any concerns.

Well, if somoene gets hurt by a car, it's a CTP issue - yep, even in the carparks. If someone trips and falls in a carpark - one would argue its nothing to do with the event, and depending on the circumstances it may be the property owner's issue.

This could be an issue for people with restricted rego such as NSW historic rego where car has to be used for official club events.

If *individuals* are invited to a cars and coffee event by *someone* and at no point was a car club involved, it's pretty clear. I believe madram is just trying to ensure that there is no possibility that a car club, through a tenuous connection with an event (listing it on a calendar on a web site) could be seen to be organising or otherwise responsible for the event. That is all. Move along. Job done. If anyone is fascinated by terms of liability insurance cover for car clubs or any other legalities,  maybe pick a different forum....
