Hi there guys, first time Alfa owner in Te Awamutu here... recently sold my '86 Porsche 944 (which i kick myself for), and missed having a manual so much I bought a '98 156 V6 with the 6 speed manual. Totally different to the Porker so you can't really compare them, but it's a fantastic little car. It must be said. the Alfa is far quicker given it has the same size engine, but doesn't quite corner the same - the weight of the V6 up front is quite noticeable; that said now that the lower wishbones have been replaced I'm sure it'll handle even more betterer. I've always had a soft spot for Alfas, and have driven and worked on a friend's 33QV some time back.

Currently mine's off the road with a *ahem* "technical issue" which I'll post on a different board if anyone cares to have a look. It's not insurmountable (I hope!) but friggin' annoying just the same.

Apart from that glorious engine, I'm astounded at how quiet the 156 is when cruising - it's quieter than my '12 Mondeo daily.

Cheers from TA,

Mike

Welcome Mike from the furthest Australian point west of you possible.

Great choice (though pity you sold the 944 ). I'm onto my second V6 156, and they are brilliant. I would still be on my first (6sp manual) if it hadn't caught fire!

What sort of technical issue?

Hey there,

Yeah when I saw the 944 being driven off I knew I'd done something dumb.

Here's the link to my woes, can't drive the car until I get this resolved.

Cheers,

Mike

Still can't read it for some reason - error message comes up coming up saying that "This topic doesn't exist on this board."

Yep that works, thanks Aggie.

Unfortunately I can't help you Mike. Last time I needed lower wishbones replaced, I got it done by local Alfa specialist. Sure wasn't cheap but it did make a huge difference to ride and handling.

Ok, the trick to fitting the lower wishbones is you have to first loosen off the anti-rollbar bolts first, allows you to get the bolts holes aligned properly. Once you do this it makes it so much easier.
