Hi all,

This is my first post for quite a while.

I'm fixing up the rust issues on my 1600 GT Junior. After some digging and cutting, most of it seems to be from previous repairs.

The main parts I'm concentrating on is the Left bottom door sill and wheel arch, the left rear window and the left rear wheel arch.

I have a few pictures to post to give an idea of the extent of the repairs.

information and suggestions are most welcome welcome :)

Hello and interesting to hear of another 105 resto happening on the coast. Not sure if you know that there is a few alfisti very close to you and maybe lucky for you but another alfisti has started a business in Gympie specialising in quality metal shaping(fb-Independant Custom Fabrication) and alfa/fiat and all things Italian being his passion.Would be very interested in seeing your junior.

Yep. They all do that. My best piece of advice is going and finding one of the dozens of threads on the AlfaBB documenting restoration of 105 coupes.

Good to see another 105 coupe is getting some love and attention . I just finished my 1600 junior 6 mouths ago...  I had the same tin worms that you have.

Yes, usual 105 sill rust. You will almost certianly need to replace the whole sill, probably all three layers, as they rust from the inside out. Generally, when the sills are like this the floors will need attention too.

Bodged sill repairs, as you have found, are the principal reason buying a 105 coupe, any 105 coupe, is risky unless you have documentation of the repairs. I was lucky, when I restored my stepnose it was 20 years younger than it is today and the rust wasn't as extensive as you have.

Worth doing and good luck with it.

Not necessarily - mine only needed the front 3/4 of the passenger's side middle sill and full outer sill, (A and B puillar bases too) with a minor patch of the inner, and the driver's side only needed some patching of the inner and middle sills, and the front half of the outer - car had been parked nose down almost it's whole life it seems. Floors were pretty good too.
