Noticed the flexible fuel hose coming off the male end at the fuel rail. Its a poor pic but shows about 2cm of the metal pipe the fuel hose slids onto as being exposed. Am sourcing a new hose... suggestions on  a supplier and price?

If it's is a regular rubber fuel hose, any parts store should have it in stock. I bought a meter of it and renewed all the fuel lines in my cars. Just remove the old fuel hose, line it up to the new hose and cut it to the same legnth.

It's not expensive, I can't recall the exact price but I don't think it should be much more than 20 bucks for a meter or so.

I've never worked on a 156, but I would think it should have a hose clamp on the end to secure it to the fitting?
Well at least I would add a clamp just to make sure that it doesn't slide off.

Yes yes yes, I say clamp it ...

Just kidding - just as well you are changing it though, that fuel line looks really clapped out. Should be a nice fat one like this:
