Hello Alfisti,

I thought I would share a barn find journey with you..starting from the start..well a few days after the start.  Got to dash now but let me know if there is interest and Ill share.  Id also be keen to hear views on what one does with a low k one owner 1985 gtv6.
Ive had them before and love them but Ive never had a nice one.  Im not sure if I do yet...but things look promising.

The story starts about 3 yrs ago.  I moved into a new house and blow me if there wasnt a gtv6 across the street with 4 flat tyres..tyres that turned out to be the original pirellis tyres she left the showroom wearing.  I got to know the owner, a top bloke who was not too sure whether to let her go for various reasons.  So I let him know I was interested and mentioned every year 😀.

Got to dash..tbc.

Hi Mike
Congratulations on the purchase of the1985 GTV6 shed find and yes there will be definitely interest in sharing your experience on getting her back on the road. I can envisage numerous maintenance tasks that need to be undertaken, such as brakes, engine, fuel and electrical systems, together with all the associated ancillaries such as coolant hoses, brake lines, fuel tank/lines, wiring just to name a few. I have one simple tip in ensuring the success of this project and that is to develop a simple plan for managing these tasks.
Cheers

Righto.  That was a little mean to kick this off without photos 😀...but thanks to this site not auto resizing photos it makes it a little more involved.  Anyhoo..

So a couple of years went by.  I would drive past the car every day and think..one day.  I was starting to worry that by the time he was ready to move it on that the car would be more trouble than it was worth.

I want to give a sense of how long I had to wait😀.  It was killing me.  The car was not being started and we all know the headaches this can cause.  It was also under a carport with no walls so was coping some of the elements, although importantly in Perth, not much sun.

I am well aware that Alfettas reset on the kms at 99k so was also not really sure whether it was a low k car. All I knew is that I would like a gtv6 at some point, but not just a dunger, but rather something worth spending money on...you know..good bones..nice history, known issues from original ower.  That kind of stuff. Of course other things with gtv6s...loke interior that is not grey from sun and plastics that have not been punished by years of neglect. Being the way I am, I also woukd prefer that I could value add to the vehicle..ie play with it and inject some blood sweat and tears. Make it my own.

Anyway..sorry..getting side tracked!  So last week we chatted and he agreed to sell it.  One thing important to me was that he got a price he was happy with.   I dont need the bad vibes that come from ripping someone.  I knew more about gtv6 prices than him and suggested he review the market.  Its tricky as carsales is all over the place.  The car obviously needed work and because it was jammed hard up against the wall on 4 flat tyres.  So I offered what I felt was above market value, indeed some mates think Ive overpayed....good.  i rest at night and have a low k gtv6.  Im happy, hes happy.  So we had a few long neck home brews and chatted about all sorts including his time with the vehicle.  Great stories and for me, important in the whole transition of ownership.

He has oviously been quite organised as he had kept both sets of keys, all brochures and service records. The immobiliser is the only mod on the car..actually there is an aftermarket replacement exhaust.  That appears to be it.

Great!  Ive bought a GTV6.  I have a borderline salvagable gtv6 for parts/ resto in the shed but other than that Ive not owned a gtv6 for...7yrs or so. It was a Silver one owner again I think...bought back when prices were rediculous..2k I paid.  It was straight but tired and needed a paint etc etc.  Anyway, its fair to say I missed it.

Now to get the darn thing to the shed...Easy! Just blow the tyres up and roll her onto a flat bed.  Er..not quite sunshine.  The valves on the wheels had oxidised and the adaptor on the compressor was not screwing on.  I did manage to get the dpare to blow up as this had not oxidised.  Two wheels on my spare gtv6 were accessible in the shed so those were promtly borrowed and that left me with one more....hmm...integrale has same stud pattern and I have a spare set of rims off mine so bingo!
Next step..does it now roll?...why yes it does...bugger me, the rear claipers had not seized!  Oh at this point I was able to confirm that the types were 14th week 1981..or 91 tyres based off tyre markings.  Interestingly pree 2000 tyres only had two digits for month and one for year...after 2000 they had 2 digitis for year..rather more informative!  But owner said they were the factory fitted tyres and everything he helas told me has turned out to be true...suspect the last few thousand ks were done on super hard tyres...excellent longevity...terrible road holding 😀.  Of course this also begs the question how much maintwnance was going on at this point.

Bonno, you are absolutely right.  Make a list I will!

First thing on the list is see if I have an engine that will start.  That begins with assessing electrical situation post rats...which requires an immobilser fob...the owner found 1...its cactus.  He is now looking for the second. In the interim, we have delved into the engine bay.

But before I get onto that, heres a glimmer of hope and ultimatly why I handed over the folding stuff...the interior is really quite lovely. Very presentable as is before any tidy up.

So nothing of real convern underneath and a rather nice exhaust with a hard to get rear section.  Not the factory exhaust but a good substitute.

Now to put the audience..if I have one 😆 to work.  The engine turns...tick...almost 720deg....cross.  no3 exhaust valve is stuck.  Some hot air down the inlet has resulted in some movement but not much.  Question is...attempt to free...or head off for a proper look see.
