Most collectable 916?

LHD V6 turbo asside (damn it), what would be the rarest, or most collectable version of the 916 platform?

Re thinking some of my life goals (see sig lol) and thinking that perhaps I'll just "settle" for something well within my means.

And I've fallen for the 916's big time, in case you hadn't noticed lol.

I have a few articles on the topic in magazines, but I'd welcome input from Alfa owners and enthusiasts.

From what I see, prices are still falling but the odd pristine example can still pull in a nice price.

And of course, I'm assuming it will have a Busso under the bonnet :D

So I guess what I'm asking is, is there a special edition (often not available in Australia sadly) and if not, is there a year that stands out? Like the 02 being the last manufactured at Alfa Romeo?

Or the original Ph1?

Or the still quite expensive 3.2?

I can understand why you love the 916, a stunning, unique body by one of the great Italian design houses, and the Busso, rated by some as one of the best production motors of all time!
All for less than 10k. Sure, it's not RWD, but it's still in IMHO a great drive.
Clarkson said something like 'it's daft but I love it'.

I have had my Phase 2 for a couple of years now and I really enjoy it. It's also been fairly vice free - only a thermostat and air bag warning light (because the seat has been moved with the ignition on).

Anyway, I think I'm preaching to the converted aren't I?

What is the most collectable? Build quantity says the P3 (very few), but some say the Pininfarina design was compromised by the enlarged grille. As a designer, I can kind of see that, same as you can see the purity of design in the first series Muira vs the evolutions of the design. I bought the P2 because the body has the uncompromised purity of design of the P1 but the fresher centre console design. The P1 dashboard is relentlessly black and looks a bit dull IMHO?

Maybe the P1 makes a little more power than the P2 because it is less restricted by anti pollution equipment?

You can't go wrong they're all good 😄

Cheers,
Al.

One that comes to mind when it comes to which is most collectable is the 3.0 v6 GTV Cup. I think there were only something like 180 made and around 150 were RHD. They came with a more stylish bodykit and spoiler which in my opinion makes the car look great. I believe they had a little more power than the standard model v6 also.

I think the phase 3's are very collectable ,

I might be wrong but there were not many V6 phase 3's made.

551 Spiders and 512 GTV's :)

I have a P3 V6 Spider and its just a great car that alway puts a smile on my face when I am out for a drive with it.

Yep I did wonder about the cup.

I believe they were not sold in Australia though?

Not that that makes it impossible. But it does mean dealing with the gremlin that is "UK car import" which financially is probably not worth it either.

And now we have a problem. Because now I find myself searching "Alfa Romeo GTV6 Alfetta for sale".

Can someone look after my wallet for a while?

I bought mine for the colour:- Sargassi Verde Ph1 (and the v6 Busso). I have a thing for 90's pearl greens though.

Hey Chris, you could really splash out and get the best of past and (almost) present: The last of the 116 series GTV coupes fitted with the the final fling of the mighty Busso V6 (from 2006 GT). And its local, though probably a touch more expensive than you had in mind...

I'd' probably go back to a standard bonnet bulge, and black out the rear vent. And lower it, and fit 17 inch rims...

haha yeah I did see that one. And yes a touch more expensive than I had in mind ;)

Even 916 V6's are all over the place price wise. There's a modified (to the taste of the current owner) one wanting $20K, and one with the same K's in what looks to be more original condition, only wanting $8.5K, while I nice looking red one is asking only $5K (with very little details in the advert)

And none are local lol.

Good job really.
