Interesting test criteria with a bias towards real world Australian conditions.  I take little interest in reviews generally but I know the Jaguar usually tops the UK tests (might not top the German tests!).  Unsurprised by the inevitable BMW win here, and the 4-series hatch is an even better "3-series variant" quality wise.

So Melbourne will have only one automotive manufacturer (Iveco) but four test facilities:  Anglesea / Lang Lang / You Yangs / Monegeeta.

Agreed, it's the first local "real life" test of the Veloce against its true competitors I've seen, and seems pretty honest.

As for testing grounds, haven't you forgotten the great ocean road?

Its amazing that only 5 years ago a 330i started at $110,000
Bmw models and there are now over 110 of them with variants
are like a chinese menu almost impossible to trawl through (confusing )
now the 330 is at the price of what was an upspecd 318
must be great for resale? I have an old 535 1989 my sons now when new almost 30 years ago
it was  $106,000 on road thats like $350,000 today wow how the margins have dropped

Heretic I may be, but I couldn't shell out for a Giulia at the same price point as a 3er or C-class.  Perhaps not $20K but it'd need to be cheaper by some margin.

Interesting comparison between the Giulia Super, Audi A4 2.0 TFSI, BMW420i, Jaguar XE 26t R-Sport and the Merc C250 in the October edition of Wheels.
If this doesn't get the technoctratic lemmings to pull their head out of their bum and look at the offering from Italy, nothing will!

Problem is that for so many of us this is a long-term proposition.  I bought a C-class weeks before buying my 159 Ti 1750.  Both cost the same.  The resale for a comparable Benz now is half as much again as what the Alfa would realise. 

Incidentally the intelligent money at that time would have seen me buy a Skoda Octavia Scout diesel instead of a Mercedes.  The bath I took on trade-in value for my 159 2.2 put me off that logical purchase figuring Skoda's lack of brand equity would bite at the next changeover.  This is a big part of the problem that Alfa has to overcome with the Giulia.  It extends well beyond road tests.
