Do I have a dodgy CV Joint?

G'Day Everyone,
I was getting some tyres fitted to my 83 GTV when I noticed that the right rear wheel wobbles alarmingly when the wheel is tightened up. Is this the CV Joint needing replacing? If so is this an easy task to perform (I am a fairly competent home mechanic)?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks
Damien

Na CV should be fine... Probably need to tighten the 36mm half shaft nut.
Jack up rear of car, Remove wheel, Remove large split pin(should replace split pin, but if you gonna reuse, remove carefully), get someone to put there foot on your brake peddle HARD!, use 36mm (i think) socket and a BIG crack/braker bar and tighten. Then put back together and with wheel on check for wheel play again. If all fixed then your done, if not then bearing probably stuffed(not a job for home, need special tool) also if the play is gone, before you put it back onto the ground, spin wheel and make sure bearings are quiet and smooth.  :)

Cheers GreenGTV8,
That answer has saved me a lot of mucking around. I now have some more tinkering to do on Sunday.

Have a great weekend
